Jane Austen Sequels: The Novels of Diana Birchall
Diana Birchall works for Warner Brothers studios as Story Analyst. In her professional career she reads many books, manuscripts and old novels to see if they would make good commercial films and then gives her professional recommendations.
Reading volumes of written work also allows her to write nearly as much in her reports to the studio.
With several published works to her credit, two are Jane Austen sequels. Birchall’s first novel was a Regency era Emma sequel, The Complete Mrs. Elton, which is actually a compilation of three Mrs. Elton stories: In Defense of Mrs. Elton, The Courtship of Mrs. Elton and Mrs. Elton in America.
My favorite is her newest novel, Mrs. Darcy’s Dilemma, which picks up 25 years after Darcy and Elizabeth were wed. It follows the further adventures of the Darcy’s and Wickham’s as the younger generations face the same lessons their parents have learned so many years before once again.
Two thumbs up from me. I have enjoyed both of Diana Birchall’s novels equally and hope there will be a third sometime soon.
