Jane Austen Sequels: The Novels of Pamela Aidan
Pamela Aidan was born in 1953 in Pennsylvania and has been writing for most of her adult life. Her love of Jane Austen’s classic novels began early, while she was in high school. Pride and Prejudice is her favorite book, and has been since those early days, but it was the 1995 BBC movie version of Pride and Prejudice starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle which ultimately inspired her to write the Fitzwilliam Darcy, Gentleman trilogy. An esteemed author by evening, Mrs. Aidan is a librarian by day, and holds a masters degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
The Fitzwilliam Darcy, Gentleman trilogy series was initially named The Chronicles of Pemberley, but was later renamed and includes the novels An Assembly Such as This, Duty and Desire and These Three Remain. Each focuses on the character, inner struggles, personality and personal growth of the mysterious Mr. Darcy as he embarks upon the greatest journey of his life…courtship, marriage and becoming a true gentleman.
While society, familial expectations and his own prejudices make this journey anything but easy, he ultimately experiences the personal growth which makes him worthy of the hero worship that generations of women have experienced when reading Pride and Prejudice.
Mrs. Aidan has done an admirable job in this well written series of novels, and puts a unique spin on a most beloved classic novel.
