Jane Austen Sequels: The Novels of Rachel Billington
Lady Rachel Billington is a well known British author who was born in May of 1942. She is the daughter of the Earl and Countess of Longford, Frank and Elizabeth Pakenham, both of which were eminently respected writers. She is also the sister of Lady Antonia Fraser and Thomas Parkenham who both make their living as writers. Mrs. Billington is married to film director Kevin Billington, and originally worked in television in both London and New York before taking up writing full time in 1968.
She has published 4 children’s books, 19 adult novels, and 5 religious books for children during her distinguished career. Her first novel was All Things Nice, which was published in 1969. As if her well loved novels and children’s books were not enough, she also held the title of Vice-President of the English PEN writer’s organization, and is a regular contributing writer for Inside Time which is a not for profit national newspaper for prisoners.
One of her recent adult novels, Emma & Knightley: Perfect Happiness at Highbury: A Sequel to Jane Austen’s Emma, is an entertaining and engaging Regency era sequel to Jane Austen’s Emma. The title Emma and Knightley is the US version for the same novel which was published under the title Perfect Happiness in the UK. This novel was exceptionally well written, so much so, that I had a look at several of her other titles.
